Perpetual futures fees: compare maker, taker and funding costs

perpfuse · Updated:

Compare CEX and DEX perpetual futures costs using trade size, entry and exit fees, spread and funding.

Start with notional, not margin

Trading fees are generally based on position notional rather than the margin deposited. In a hypothetical linear contract, a $10,000 entry at 0.05% costs $5. Closing the same notional at 0.05% adds $5. This $10 round trip excludes spread and funding; 0.05% is an example, not a quoted exchange tariff.

Separate maker, taker and holding costs

A maker order provides liquidity; a taker order consumes it. A limit order can still execute as a taker. Compare the same fee tier and product, and check whether discounts require volume, a token balance or a referral. Funding is a separate payment that can change sign. Annualized funding is not a promised return.

Compare an actual position

Use the exchange comparison to check published fee sources, then open the position-cost calculator. Set notional, direction and holding period. Inspect spread and available depth: a low fee does not ensure a low execution cost. Record entry, exit and funding separately. Confirm eligibility and current account-specific rates with the venue.
